Universal Video Controls · Last updated: October 7, 2026

Universal Video Controls ("the extension") adds playback controls, keyboard shortcuts, and download/record options to videos on the websites you visit. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data.

Summary

The extension does not collect, sell, or share any personal data. It has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no ads. Everything it does with videos happens locally in your browser.

Data stored on your device

The extension saves only your own preferences, such as:

• Theme, layout, playback speed, and seek settings
• Custom keyboard shortcuts
• Websites where you enabled or disabled the controls

These settings are kept in your browser's extension storage. If you are signed in to your browser with sync turned on, your browser may sync them across your devices. That sync is handled by your browser provider (for example Google), not by us. We never receive these settings.

Video content

To show controls, the extension detects video players on the pages you visit. It does not read, record, or send the rest of the page content, your browsing history, or what you watch. Videos are downloaded or recorded only when you choose to, and the files are saved directly to your device's download folder. They are never uploaded anywhere.

Update check

From time to time the extension downloads a small public file (version.json) from universal-video-controls.pages.dev to tell you if a newer version is available. This request contains no personal information or identifiers. Like any web request, the hosting provider (Cloudflare) may briefly process standard technical data such as your IP address to deliver the file. We do not use that data to identify or track you.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties. We don't use any data for advertising, creditworthiness, or anything unrelated to the extension's features.

Permissions

• Access to websites: to detect videos and show the controls on any site you visit.
• Storage: to save your preferences.
• Downloads: to save videos and recordings you choose to download.

Children

The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes (for example, if paid features are added), the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date before the change takes effect.
